We were again pleasantly surprised by the visit of the wonderful #Live in Music musicians. This time we were pleased to say hi to Sumit and Debjit, who introduced us to the electric guitar and a huge double bass… or as Sumit jokingly put it – the dinosaur violin! This was the first time we […]
We are time and again pleased to receive a visit from Dr. Susanne Pechel, President of the CED Foundation that helped build our new school and that continues to support 55 of our students. Despite the short stay, the time we spent together since last meeting two years ago was really special. Thanks to Susanne […]
On our school’s ninth year anniversary, we celebrated our joy and gratitude for being able to learn, share and help one another – thereby, growing together. The stage was lit up in the bright colours of the rainbow, sun and magnificent flowers. Our girls danced and sang alongside lyrics that reflected our joy. We sincerely thank Ms. […]
We have received a special visit. The music students from Geneva, Switzerland, came to Piali and prepared a fun program with a sound workshop for our girls. The children were taught about using their hands and feet to create and play with rhythm and sound. Thank you #LiveinSchool and Indian Guitar Federation for this beautiful opportunity.
Sincere thanks to the Ganguly Pal family that decided to celebrated the birthday of their son and grandson Aintik with us. They treated us to a delicious lunch and brought gifts for all the children. We also got to have chocolate cake while singing ‘Happy Birthday’. Many thanks!
Text and photos: Polona Fonda At first I felt a bit uncomfortable, I mean after all I was a stranger… With a camera, full of curiosity and a bunch of Ashar Alo girls willing to open the doors of their homes. After classes were over, students took us on a walk around Piali. We moved through the narrow, muddy trails, […]
It’s reading time – this time in a very special place, our new library! Special thanks to the Crayons of Hope Foundation that helps with the opening of new libraries across all of India with their Wall-o-Books project. They came to our aid as well with the idea of selecting a librarian – a student, […]
Today we celebrated with fullness, diversity and great pride, Independence Day. Sincere thanks to the Indradhanush (translated ‘Rainbow’) organization, a group of young people from Hindmotor, India, that showered us with attention, gifts and a hearty lunch on such a special day. Thank you for the school supplies and the colourful umbrellas that will really come in handy during the […]
Our young volunteers Teja and Ana brought with them lots of dance, music, joy and new ideas. We got familiar with the violin and danced the Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) and the duck dance. We learned the song ‘We Love Each Other’ and said goodbye with the melody of ‘You Are My Sunshine’. […]

This time, we’d like to extend our sincere thanks to Renata and Polona, who shared with us their experiences, joy, creativity and energy. We said goodbye with tears in our eyes and with lots of […]
